Flying is great! New destinations, exciting adventures, and a chance to escape the daily grind. But let’s be honest: the journey itself can be a challenge. Lack of sleep, a stiff neck, noise all around you… been there, done that.
Luckily, there are a few travel gadgets that can make your flight a lot more pleasant.
This isn’t the first time I’ve compiled a list of must-have travel products, but as a frequent traveler, I’ve noticed that new gadgets keep coming on the market that make flying just that little bit more comfortable. Some classics remain indispensable, of course, but over the years I’ve discovered which upgrades are really worth it.
Time for a list of my 5 absolute must-haves travel items for a relaxing flight!

															1. A Memory Foam Neck Pillow: Your Lifesaver 😴
We’ve all been there: you’re trying to sleep on a plane, and your head keeps nodding forward like a puppet. Not exactly comfortable. After a few of those flights, I learned my lesson – a good neck pillow isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.
A really good neck pillow provides the right amount of support so you don’t get a stiff neck upon arrival. My favorite? A memory foam pillow that wraps all the way around your neck. No more fumbling around with half support or pillows sliding off your shoulder. This thing just stays put, no matter how you’re slumped in your seat.
And the best part? This neck pillow is not only a lifesaver on long flights, but also on long bus rides or road trips as a passenger. It folds up easily and stores in a compact travel bag, so you don’t have to lug around a big, bulky pillow. And let’s be honest… we’ve all drooled a little while sleeping upright (I admit it), so a washable cover is a must.
In short, if you’re planning on traveling, make sure a good neck pillow is at the top of your packing list. Your neck will thank you!

															2. Noise-Canceling Headphones or Earplugs 🎧
Crying babies, fellow passengers talking just a little too loudly, the constant hum of engines… noise pollution is inevitable on a plane. That’s why my noise-canceling headphones always go in my carry-on. With the push of a button, you can create your own bubble of peace.
But honestly? After all those flights, I’ve discovered that it really depends on the situation which device I use. For long flights, especially when I want to sleep, I prefer noise-canceling earplugs. They’re much more comfortable when I’m leaning against the airplane window or trying to take a nap without a bulky pair of headphones pressing against my neck.
On shorter flights, or when I’m just in the mood to listen to music or watch a movie, I prefer to reach for my headphones. The sound is fuller, the experience feels more immersive, and let’s be honest, sometimes you just want to walk around the airport in style with a good pair of headphones around your neck.
Whatever you choose, one thing is for sure: flying without noise-cancelling gear? Not an option. You’ll never see me traveling without it!

															3. An Eye Mask That Really Blocks Out Light 💤
Do you want to get some sleep during a night flight? Then a good eye mask is indispensable. But be careful: not every mask works equally well. Choose one that is soft, does not put pressure on your eyes and really blocks out all the light.
I still remember a long flight where the sun started shining at just the wrong moment and several people around me desperately tried to hide behind blankets, scarves or even airplane menus. The hatch by the window remained stubbornly open and I saw people trying desperately to get some sleep.
But me? I had my sleep mask and slept like a baby.
Honestly, I still feel sorry for anyone who boards a long flight without an eye mask. There is a good chance that they will stumble out of the plane halfway through, dead tired and with a heavy jet lag. Why make it so difficult for yourself? This little accessory really makes a world of difference!

															4. A Collapsible Water Bottle (Because Hydration Is Key) 💧
Airplane air is bone dry, and before you know it, you’ll feel dehydrated and sluggish. You can always ask for a cup of water, but let’s be honest: they’re way too small. So bring your own collapsible water bottle and fill it up after security. It also saves on plastic waste!
During my travels, I’ve found a water bottle that’s truly ideal: easy to fold, BPA-free, and – most importantly – 100% leak-proof. No more spills in your bag and no more frustrations about limited carry-on space.
The great thing is that this bottle has already attracted curious looks several times. I can’t count the number of times fellow travelers have asked me where I got my collapsible water bottle from, while they themselves were fumbling with bulky cardboard cups or had spent way too much money on a plastic bottle at the airport. A small gadget, but a real lifesaver on the road!

															5. A Universal Travel Adapter With USB Ports 🔌
There’s nothing more frustrating than having a dead phone at the airport and not having the right adapter on hand. A universal travel adapter with multiple USB ports ensures that you can charge your devices anywhere in the world. A must-have if you have multiple devices with you (and we all do).
Thanks to advances in technology, you no longer have to buy different adapters for different countries. There are foldable, all-in-one travel adapters that work worldwide. No more hassle with separate plugs—one compact solution for all your travels and devices.
My favorite and trusty travel buddy has seen me through countless airports, hotels, and coffee shops!
